What Happens to Your Car After It Arrives at an Accident Repair Centre?

Tabitha Pearson • October 19, 2026

After an accident, handing your car over for repair can feel like the start of an unknown process.

You know the vehicle has been damaged, but what actually happens once it reaches the bodyshop?

At Grover Accident Repair Centre, the aim is to make that process as straightforward as possible. From the first assessment through to the completed repair, our team works to establish what is required, keep downtime to a minimum and get your vehicle back on the road safely and looking its best.

1. Your Vehicle Is Assessed

The first step is understanding the extent of the damage.

Some damage may be immediately visible, while other issues can become clearer during a thorough professional assessment. This is why an accurate inspection is important before repair work begins.

Our experienced accident repair team assesses the damage and prepares a detailed estimate for the work required. Where parts are needed, we can also advise on availability so you have a clearer idea of the expected repair timescale.

For smaller dents, scratches and cosmetic damage, we also offer dents, scratches and Smart Repair services where appropriate.

2. An Estimate Is Prepared

Once the damage has been assessed, the next step is creating an accurate repair estimate.

This sets out the work required and helps determine whether the repair will be handled through an insurance claim or paid for directly.

Our estimating process is designed to support speedy insurance approval where applicable, or provide a clear quote for customers arranging the repair themselves.

If you are looking for an initial estimate, you can also use our Fast Quote option and send photographs of the damage to the team.

3. Insurance Approval May Be Required

If your repair is being handled through an insurance claim, the estimate normally needs to be approved before repair work can begin.

This is one of several factors that can affect how long car body repairs take, alongside the extent of the damage and the availability of any required parts.

If the accident was not your fault, we can also help with the wider claims process through our non-fault accident repair service, including dealing with insurers and third parties.

4. The Repair Work Begins

Once everything is agreed, the repair itself can begin.

The work required will depend on the type and extent of damage. This could range from dents, scratches or bumper damage through to more substantial accident repairs.

Our repair services cover everything from smaller cosmetic repairs through to more significant accident damage.

Where replacement parts are required, genuine manufacturer-approved parts are used to help uphold manufacturer warranties.

5. Preparation, Refinishing and Quality Checks

Professional body repair involves more than simply correcting the visible damage.

Depending on the repair, the process can include preparation, repair and refinishing before the vehicle goes through final quality checks. These stages are important for restoring both the appearance and condition of the car properly.

For more minor cosmetic work, some repairs may be suitable for a faster turnaround through our Rapid Repair service.

The timescale will always depend on the individual vehicle, extent of damage, parts availability and any required insurance approval.

6. Getting You Back on the Road

Once the repair is complete, the priority is returning the vehicle to you with as little disruption as possible.

We offer an optional courtesy car and free collection and delivery for insurance claims, while repairs are guaranteed for three years or up to the manufacturer warranty, depending on the circumstances.

Communication throughout the process matters too, especially when your car is off the road.

One Grover customer said:

“Good service. Friendly staff, twice per week updates, new courtesy car, job done spot on.”

How Long Will the Whole Process Take?

There is no single repair time that applies to every vehicle.

Minor cosmetic damage may be suitable for a very quick turnaround, while more substantial repairs can take longer due to factors including the extent of the damage, parts availability, insurance approval and the complexity of the repair.

A detailed initial assessment helps give you a more realistic idea of what to expect before the work begins.
